ATCO I-Tek - Data Centre Modernization: From Decision to Deployment

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

ATCO I-Tek provisions mission-critical services and applications in support of ATCO Group and other external clients. The foundation of these services is the Information Technology (IT) infrastructure, which runs in its Edmonton and Calgary data centres.

To improve reliability, enhance disaster recovery capabilities, and provide capacity to support future growth, in 2012, ATCO I-Tek made the strategic decision to obtain co-location space and open a second data centre in Edmonton. ATCO I-Tek’s dedicated transition team successfully migrated over 500 servers, supporting over 150 applications, to a new Edmonton data centre facility in 2013. This initiative included the deployment of a new enterprise storage system and core network.

Terry Goy, Senior Manager, Business Operations, oversaw the entire project from vendor selection to the successful completion of the transition to the new facility.

In this session, he will provide an overview of the decision factors that resulted in establishing a new data centre, the lifecycle of a transition project, and insight into risk management, client engagement and project communications. He will also discuss how ATCO I-Tek solved the following issues:  industry evolution to high density computing, aggressive IT availability targets and the requirement for enhanced Disaster Recovery solutions.

This presentation will resonate with both IT departments and users.

You will learn about:

  • The migration strategy
  • Success factors that contributed to the project
  • Importance of the end-user’s role and participation in major IT projects
